BITMAIN introduced the new dedicated power supply Antminer APW7 in June this year. As an upgraded version of Antminer APW3++, it has many technological progresses compared to the previous generation.
From the table of parameters, we can see that the rated power output has been increased from 1600W to 1800W, an increase of 200W, compared with the previous generation APW3++.
Have a look at the efficiency curve of Antminer APW7, we can find that the highest conversion efficiency is 95%, about 1.5% higher than that of APW3++ (93.5%).
Here we have specially made a comprehensive evaluation on this power supply. Let’s take a look at the actual performance of APW7 power supply!
Unpacking Photos
The APW7 power supply is in rectangular shape with metal case and BITMAIN logo on the top.
The basic parameters are printed on the side (Model APW7-12-1800-A3). The “INPUT” are “100-140VAC” and “200-264VAC”, which means this power supply supports super wide voltage range from 100V to 264V.
The power supply provides 4 channels, two of which have four standard PCI-E six-pin interfaces while the other two have one interface respectively. The 10 interfaces in total can meet the interface requirement for S9i, L3++ and other types of miners.
In the front is the cooling fan and power cable interface (power cord is not provided). When placing the miners on rack, the positioning of air outlet of the machine makes it convenient for dissipating the heated air.
The PCI-E interface is located in the back, where all the cables are neatly fixed.
Test
Power Consumption
Use APW7 power supply to support one Antminer X3 (rated power 500W), the measured power is 490.8W, the load then is 490.8/1800=27.27%
Use APW3++ power supply to support one Antminer X3, the measured power is 498.2W, the load then is 498.2/1600=31.14%
It can be concluded that the new power supply APW7 can save 1.5% of power compared to the old model.
Mining Data
Use APW7 power supply to support one Antminer X3 (rated hashrate 220KH/S), the average hashrate is around 234.42KH/S and the fan speed is 3690 rpm.
Use APW3++ power supply to support one Antminer X3, the average hashrate is around 234.5KH/S and the fan speed is 3900 rpm.
Use different power supplies to maintain the basically same hashrate, the fan speed supported by APW7 power supply is lower.
Noise
Since the impact of miner noise cannot be eliminated in the test, the actual noise of the power supply will be disturbed by the miner noise. The actual noise of power supply is 67.4dBA.
Temperature
In terms of calorific values, the temperature measured on power supply case is about 31℃and the temperature measured at the tail of power supply case is about 34℃.
Summary
- With obvious energy-saving performance, APW7 power supply can help miners save mining costs and about 1.5% of energy compared with the product of previous generation.
- Due to less heat generation in operation and high cable quality, the power supply is suitable for high temperature environment of the mining farm.
- The power supply adopts PCI-E interface which is used on most miners currently, so it’s suitable for most miners.
