Antminer E3 is a product released in April 2018 by Bitmain. It is developed to mine cryptocurrencies based on Ethash algorithm. This Antminer E3 is the first ASIC Ethereum Miner in the world. It hits a speed of 180MH for Ethash mining with the power consumption of 800w which makes it undoubtedly a pioneer machine in the field.

The design

The E3 miner has a slightly different look from Bitmain’s other models. It is about twice the height of other regular models.

It is installed with 2 fans on one end and a cooling net one the other end.

As the typical design of other Bitmian models, it has 3 hash boards and 1 control board.

 

Getting Ready

For this test run, we are using APW7 power supply and mining ETH in the Antpool.

• Hardware: E3 miner, APW7 power supply, ethernet cord, power cable and computer (for configuration)

• A valid wallet address: for example, 0x54b2a793dea260599ea867d5dcc103d696f93157. A valid wallet address is very important, because it’s for receiving your mining earnings.

Pool and account settings

The Antpool supports 2 modes of ETH mining which have different settings, and different ways to check the earnings history.

1. Using sub-account in Antpool

• Click “Miner Configuration” to enter the configuration page.
• Configure the “URL“, “User” and “Password” as below:

URL: pool address
User: 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000（42digits, this step is necessary）
Password: your sub-account in the pool and the miner number.

• Correct settings example:

URL: stratum-eth.antpool.com:8008
User: 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Password: yang007.01

• Click“Save&Apply“.
• After the changes made, the chip status is BB-CC-OO.
• Around 10 minutes, the hash rate will show on the “Miner Status” Page.

• In 5-30 minutes, the worker will show in the pool. Under such settings, you can log into the pool to check the hash rate and the earnings of the miner(the same as Antminer S9 etc.).

• To mine ETC, the settings are the same except that you need to change the URL as the address of ETC pool.

2. Using wallet address to mine anonymously

• Click “Miner Configuration” to enter the configuration page.
• Configure the “URL“, “User” and “Password” as below:

URL: pool address
User: your wallet address
Password: 123(not important, can be set as anything)

• Correct settings example:

URL: stratum-eth.antpool.com:8008

Password: 123

• Click “Save&Apply“
• After the changes made, the chip status is BB-CC-OO. In around 10 minutes, the hash rate will show on the “Miner Status” page.

Noise and temperature

We are using a 30㎡ room for the test, the room temperature is 25℃.

The noise level is 50dB without the miner. When the miner is working, at a distance of 10cm, the decibel is 74.4dB. At the distance of 1m, it is 67.7dB.

After running for a while, the temperature at the air input is 32.8℃, and 37.6℃ at the air output.

On the miner status page, we can see the temperature of the hash board is around 47℃, and chip temperature is around 58℃. Spin speed of the fans is 3000. It’s working well.

Rated hash rate of E3 is 190MH/S. In the test run, within 24 hours, the average speed is 200.48MH/S. Rated power consumption is 760w, in the test run, it is 800w, the ratio is 3.7W／M.

• Earning for mining ETH in Antpool for 24 hours

In the test, by PPS mining, the reward of one E3 working 24hours is 0.015ETH.

In our test, the E3 miner worked well and surely is more efficient than graphic cards with its advantage that its price is lower than graphics.
